Rhyming Isaiah, Chapter 9
In former times, he made contemptuous
the land of Zebulun and Naphtali,
but afterwards, he will make glorious
the land beyond the Jordan, of the Sea,
the Way, the nations of them, Galilee.
The people who in darkness walked have seen
a great light; those who have lived in a land
as dark as death, on them, a light has dawned.
You’ve multiplied the nations and increased
their joy, you have; before you, they rejoice
as those who will rejoice at harvest time,
exult as warriors when, spoils, they divide.
For that which burdened them is what you broke,
the rod laid on their shoulders, and the yoke,
the driver’s goad, the day of their defeat,
as on it, Midian’s. That shod their feet,
the boots of trampling warriors, and those rolled
in blood, their cloaks, how all of those shall be
burned in the fire, they’ll all be used as fuel.
For, born to us, a child has been, a son
is given to us, and dominion,
a symbol, of, bear on his shoulder, he’ll
they name him Counselor, one Wonderful,
the Mighty God, the Father, E’erlasting,
the Prince of Peace. And his authority
is something that will grow contin’ually,
and there shall be a never-ending peace.
He’ll reign o’er David’s kingdom, on his throne,
he will establish it and, it, uphold,
with justice and, as well, with righteousness
from this time onward and forevermore.
The LORD of Hosts, his zeal, what will do this.
The LORD has, Jacob, ‘gainst, a message, sent;
and it, on Is’rael, fell; they all knew it–
the people, Ephraim, of Samaria,
and, the inhabitants, their arrogance,
who, in their pride, say, “They have fallen down,
the bricks, but we, rebuild, shall, in dressed stone;
the sycamores have been cut down but we
will, cedars, grow, as an alternative.”
So, ‘gainst them, the LORD, adversaries, raised,
and upwards, where he stirred their enemies,
those who are on the east, the Arameans,
and those who’re on the west, the Phillistines,
and Is’rael, they, with open mouth, inhaled.
For all this did his anger not abate,
and stretched out still, his hand is upwards raised.
The people did not turn to him who struck
them, or the LORD of hosts, did they, him seek.
Therefore, the LORD cut off both head and tail,
from Is’rael, palm branch and reed in one day —
the elders, dignitaries are the head,
and prophets teaching lies, they are the tail.
Those whom, this people, guide, astray, them, lead,
and in confusion, there, where they were left
by those who lead them. That is why the LORD,
showed, never, any mercy, their youths, towards,
or on their orphans, or their widows showed
compassion. Godless and an evildoer,
for everyone was, and what each mouth spake
impiety. It has not turned away,
for all of this, his anger, and it stays
as threat’ning, is his arm outstretched, upraised.
Just like a fire, for wickedness has burned,
consuming both the briars and the thorns;
it sets the forest thickets all ablaze–
and up they go in smoke, in bill’wing flames.
It’s by the fury of the LORD of Hosts,
the land, the manner by which it’s been scorched,
and, for the fire, fuel, are the people like.
A man will eat his fill, he on one side,
but still is hungry, and not satisfied;
the other man eats, but still wants to dine;
each feeds upon the flesh of his own child,
and no one spares his brother, his own kind.
Manasseh, Ephraim, what it will devour,
and Ephraim will Manasseh. Their joint power,
‘gainst Judah, how they are, together, bound.
His anger, for all this, does not abate,
his hand still threatens, his arm, upraised, stays.
