Rhyming Isaiah, Chapter 8
The LORD then said to me, “A tablet large,
take and write on it in the common tongue:
“Belonging to Maher-shalal-hash-baz,”
and, to it, these two witnesses, see that,
attest, the priest, Uriah and the son
of Jeberechiah, him, Zech’riah.”
Then I lay with my wife and she conceived
and bore a son. The LORD said this to me,
“Call him Maher-shalal-hash-baz, because
before he learns to, “Mother,” “Father,” call,
all the Damascus wealth and all the spoils,
Samaria, of, how they all will be,
off, carried by Assyria, its king.
The LORD spoke to me once again; he said:
“Because this nation has rejected them,
Shiloah’s waters, gently flowing springs,
and melt in fear before Rezin the king,
and also the son of Remaliah,
therefore the LORD will, up, against it bring,
Euphrates, the, its mighty flowing streams,
in all his pow’r, Assyria, its king;
above all of its channels, it will rise,
its banks, the river, it has overflowed,
a raging torrent, mounting up neck-high,
it will sweep into Judah like a flood;
its outspread wings will fill the land’s expanse,
Immanuel, for our God is with us.
Take note you nations, you will be dismayed.
All you, far nations, listen, guard yourself,
yourselves, arm, but you still should be afraid!
yourselves, arm, but you still should be afraid!
Devise your plans, but, ne’er be carried out, they will
for God is with us, or, Immanuel.
For thus the LORD spoke to me while his hand
was strong upon me, and warned me not to,
this people’s ways, e’er walk in them, adapt,
“Conspiracy, as all this people views,
don’t call conspiracy, and do not fear
the things they fear, with dread, what fills, minds, their.
The LORD of Hosts is whom you should regard
as holy; he, whom you should, sacred, hold.
Make him the object of your awe and fear.
He will become an obstacle, a snare,
a rock ‘gainst which both Is’rael’s houses will
strike, stumble over — a snare and a trap
for all Jerusalem’s inhabitants,
and many ‘mongst them will both stumble, fall,
and suffer injury; they’re snared and caught.”
I shall tie up the message, I shall seal
up the instruction so it cannot be
consulted by, disciples, my. I shall
wait for the LORD who has, his face, concealed
from Jacob’s house, and I will hope in him.
I and the children whom the LORD has giv’n
me are both signs and portents in Is’rael,
the LORD of Hosts, who on Mount Zion dwells,
from him. Now if the people, to you, tell:
“The ghosts, the spirits, who’re familiar,
seek guidance from those ones who whisper, chirp,
a nation may consult its gods for sure,
and ask the dead for those who are alive,
both teaching and instruction, that they’d give.”
For surely those who speak like this will have
no dawn, and what they say will have no force!
Distressed and hungry through the land they’ll pass,
they will be both enraged and they will curse
their kings and gods. Howe’er their faces turn,
if up into the sky or down to earth,
they only see both darkness and distress,
into thick darkness where they will be thrust,
there’s no escape for people who’re oppressed.
