Rhyming Isaiah, Chapter 58
“Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Make noise.
Just like a trumpet, upwards, lift your voice.
My people, tell, transgressions, their, to them,
and to the house of Jacob all their sins.
For when they seek me, it is every day,
and they seem eager to know of my ways,
just as a nation that did righteousness
and who would ne’er forsake God’s ordinance.
For just decisions, they express desire,
and, in approaching God, seems they’ve delight.
‘Why have we fasted and you have not seen?’
they say. ‘Why, for ourselves, did humbling seek,
we, and you’ve given us no noticing?’
“Yet on the day of fasting, what you do?
Just as you please, your workers, you abuse.
In quarr’ling strife, how it e’er ends, your fast,
and you, each other, strike with wicked fists.
You cannot fast, the manner of your choice,
and, to be heard on high, expect your voice.
That I have chosen, is not this the kind
of fasting? Of injustice, all its binds,
to loose them. To, cords of the yoke, untie.
To set free the oppressed and break each yoke.
Is it not to, with those who, hunger, know,
your food, share, and to wanderers who’re poor,
provide them shelter? To, the naked, clothe
when you’d, them, see, and not away from your
own flesh and blood’s direction would you turn.
Then like the dawn, how your light shall break forth
and quickly how your healing will appear.
Your vindicator shall go, you, before,
the glory of the LORD shall guard your rear.
Then you will call and, answer, will, the LORD.
You’ll cry for help and he’ll say: I am here.
If you would put away opression’s yoke,
your pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if the hungry you would spend yourself
on their behalf and satisfy the needs
of the oppressed, then in the darkness will
your light rise up and how your night will be,
just like the light that shines bright at noonday.
The LORD will guide you always in each way.
The sun-scorched land is where all of your needs,
he’ll satisfy, and strengthen, he’ll, your frame.
A garden, watered, well-, how you will be,
just like a spring whose waters never fail.
Your ancient ruins all will be rebuilt,
and many generations, you will raise
up their foundations. What you will be called:
he, the Repairer of the Broken Walls,
the Street Restorer where the people dwell.
If you would keep from breaking, with your feet,
the Sabbath and from doing as you please
upon my holy day, if you would call
the Sabbath a delight and hon’rable,
his holy day, the LORD’s, and if you will,
it, honor, by not going your own way
and doing as you please, if you’d refrain,
or speaking idle words, then you will find
your joy within the LORD and you will ride,
I’ll cause you to, in triumph, on the heights,
the land’s, to feast on the inheritance
of Jacob’s who’s your father ever since.”
For, of the LORD, his mouth has spoken this.
