“When you fast, don’t look somber like they do,
the hypocrites, their faces they construe,
to, others, show, how food, they don’t consume.
What I tell you, for certain this is true:
their full reward already has accrued,
but put oil on your head when you will fast
and wash your face so it’s not obvious
to others that you’re fasting presently,
but only to your Father who’s unseen;
and Father, yours, who sees that secretly
what’s done, for that, rewards you generously.”
